What do you believe? We believe in One God Whose proper Name is Allah. We Believe in the Holy Qur’an and in the Scriptures of all the Prophets of God.
Why don’t Muslims eat pork? Swine is divinely forbidden in both Bible and Qur’an. It represents that which feeds upon filth. In addition, it contains the trichina worm which leads to several health aliments. What we eat keeps us here, but also takes us away.
Do you drink alcoholic beverages or smoke? No. Our body is our temple, we strive to keep it free from drugs, alcohol and bad food.
Do Muslims in the Nation of Islam observe Jumu’ah prayer? Yes. In cities where there are no Mosques, the Believers attend Jumu’ah services at the nearest Mosque, regardless to whether it is a Nation of Islam established Mosque or not. Jumu’ah prayer is also broadcast live via webcast at noi.org.
Do you all pray 5 times a day? Yes, we pray 5 times a day but we are encouraged to pray 7 times a day or more since the remembrance of Allah is most powerful to keep us away from sin.
Can Muslim women serve in leadership roles? Yes. Sister Minister Ava Muhammad was the 1st appointed Minister over a Mosque and the entire Southern Region in the recorded history of Islam by the Honorable Min. Louis Farrakhan on July 4, 1998. Always a champion for women’s rights, Min. Farrakhan later appointed her to the position of National Spokesperson in July, 2000.
Why do the brothers & sisters sit separately in your meetings? The divine message that is shared at our meetings is so critical, that we do not want the natural attraction between the male and female to distract from anyone receiving that message.
Is a woman’s education limited in Islam? Absolutely not! An ignorant woman is a sin. A nation can rise no higher than its woman because when you teach a man, you teach an individual, but when you teach a woman, you teach a Nation.
Is divorce allowed in Islam? Allah (God) hates divorce, but He permits it. Marriage is the most sacred of all institutions, so when trouble arises the first thought should never be divorce. Marriage is the cornerstone of family and family is the cornerstone of community.
How is domestic violence viewed in Islam? It is forbidden. A true man of God knows how to handle a woman without beating and abusing her. The woman should always be maintained, elevated, respected and protected.
